Argon Gas in-between the seal of Thermal Units (glass in the window) is much more effective at reflecting heat than standard air that is put into the thermal unit. Argon and Krypton gases are invisible and heavier than air. Once one of these gases is added into the thermal unit, between the 2 panes of glass, they are denser than regular air resulting with more efficient heat/cold resistance .
High thermal resistance can be obtained by evacuating or filling the insulated glazing units with gases such as argon or krypton. These heavier fillers minimize heat transmission by convective movement of the filler gas between the panes of glass. Argon gas becomes the preferred gas to use in most multi-paned windows.
